Southwest Petal Mandala

Creating space has always been a natural understanding for me. To understand how the space, the life that already exists there feels. The empty places contribute to to the overall, the flow and movement. Where energy gets stuck and where it moves too quickly, how to transform this. There should be balance within our homes, within us. When there is you can feel that too.

In April I began a new mural in a Northern Arizona home, the intention was to tie a big open space that has multiple functions together, with color. Creating a focal point to ground a busy, open room. To give the occupants a place to land, to anchor and find calm in their home.

The inspiration for this piece was a small Navajo rug they had in their home and the surrounding artwork and fixtures that were placed throughout.

I created an image symbolic of a sun in the center and the outside that of a blooming flower, containing the four directions within the petals. This mandala embodied many aspects of life, growth and grounded foundations. With high ceilings and lots of window the energy of this room tends to flow in and out, maybe too easy. The mandala acts as a grounded place for everything to slow down, to be enjoyed, calm.

The finished mandala is approximately 5’ x 5’ and lives within the family space of this home.
